I spent my last weekend adding a new theme – Headway – to my blog and teaching myself some basic CSS coding so I could customize the theme (together with my new best friend, Firebug). It’s not a drastic change to the look (yet), but I wanted to add a theme that was more customizable in order to add better features in the future when I can find some time to learn more advanced web design techniques. I’m sure the blog won’t win any design awards but it’s a good start for a self-taught lawyer.
I looked at a lot of different themes before choosing, including WooThemes, StudioPress, Thesis and Headway. Ultimately, I liked Thesis and Headway because both seemed really easy to customize (not that the others were not, but I just liked Thesis and Headway).
Ultimately, I chose Headway because I prefered their Visual Editor (which is awesome) and because Headway recently moved to license their theme under a split license under the GPL, an important move because WordPress (disclosure: one of my clients) believes that themes built on WordPress are subject to the GPL. Thesis has steadfastly refused to move to the GPL. I’m very happy with the move and the technical support the Headway team provides.
